Isle of Tiree
The outermost of the Inner Hebrides, Tiree has been inhabited by Picts, Vikings and everyone in between in its 8000 year history, and is now home to a community of around 650 people.
Travelling here is an experience in itself – dolphins and porpoise often swim alongside the ferry, while the flight from Glasgow provides stunning aerial views of Tiree and the neighbouring Treshnish Isles.
The island hosts some of the UK’s rarest wildlife – corncrakes can be heard calling on the machair above the hum of the great yellow bumblebee, all surrounded by the scent of wildflowers and sea air. Its beauty has been an inspiration to many, with a number of Scotland’s best-known ceilidh bands hailing from Tiree.
